Stand Up for LGBTQ Pride in San Bernardino

Because We Deserve to Be Seen and Celebrated

Hey there! Did you know that some schools in San Bernardino County are trying to ban Pride flags and other LGBTQ symbols? It’s hard to believe, but they want to take away the very things that make us feel proud and seen. These flags aren’t just pieces of fabric—they represent who we are and the community we belong to. Without them, it can feel like we’re being erased.

Why Visibility Matters: Seeing a Pride flag in school might not seem like a big deal to some, but for LGBTQ students like us, it’s a reminder that we’re not alone. It shows that our schools are places where we can be ourselves and feel safe. When schools start banning these symbols, they’re sending the message that our identities don’t matter. But we do matter, and we deserve to be seen and celebrated just like everyone else!

Here’s What We’re Doing: At Inland Empire Prism Collective (IEPC), we’re launching the “Stand Up for LGBTQ Pride” campaign to defend the right to have Pride flags and other LGBTQ symbols in our schools. We want to make sure that LGBTQ students in San Bernardino can express themselves without fear.

How You Can Get Involved:

  1. Sign the Petition: We’re gathering as many signatures as possible to show school leaders that banning Pride flags isn’t okay. Every signature counts, so add yours and let’s make some noise!

  2. Share Your Story: Got a story about what seeing a Pride flag in school means to you? Share it with the hashtag #DefendLGBTQVisibility on social media. Your voice can help show just how important visibility is to our community.

  3. Speak Up: Want to do more? We’re helping students speak at school board meetings and community events to defend our rights. We’ll give you all the tips and support you need to make your voice heard.

  4. Join Our Events: We’re hosting some fun Pride events and rallies in San Bernardino! It’s a chance to connect with other LGBTQ students, allies, and community members, and show our pride loud and clear.

  5. Donate and Support: If you’re able, consider donating to help us keep fighting for our rights. Every little bit helps fund our efforts to protect LGBTQ visibility in schools.

Why It Matters to You: We all deserve to feel like we belong, and when schools take away Pride flags or try to censor who we are, it hurts. Being seen and celebrated isn’t just about flags—it’s about knowing that who we are matters. Standing up for LGBTQ visibility in our schools can make a huge difference in how safe and supported we feel every day.

So, let’s come together, speak up, and make sure that San Bernardino schools are places where everyone can express themselves freely. We’ve got this!

Inland Empire Center for Community Organizing

In partnership with our fiscal sponsor Inland Congregations United for Change and other local community partners, we have worked to open a center that creates a welcoming environment for all members of the community. As LGBTQ folks, we know the importance of having access to physical places where our identities are respected and where we are surrounded by others who understand the need to feel a sense of belonging.
